PING PONG SUNDAY
Dear Masters of Ping Pong,
Sunday the 8th of June from 13:30 till 20:00 Amsterdam will be the epicenter of the Ping Pong Universe.
Joey W. Elgersma and Pool Worldwide are proud to host:
The Amsterdam International Ping Pong Masters 2008
Overlooking the city of Amsterdam from the Pool Worldwide Headquarters on the 9th floor of the PostCS building a select society of leading brands and individuals will be competing against each other for the The Amsterdam International Ping Pong Masters 2008 title.
The organization has only selected Amsterdam's and Europe's finest to compete. You only have a few days left to prepare and practice your moves and we advise everybody to do so as the competition promises to be fierce.
We expect everybody to come dressed as a team, the best-looking team will be awarded accordingly. The organization has decided against an entrance fee but encourages every team to bring nice stuff that we can give to the winners... (many teams have allready been quite generous). For inspiration and preparation you should head over to our blog where you'll find everything you need to get in the mood.
We are looking forward to your company,
The Amsterdam Ping Pong Society
Practical info:
Pool Worldwide
Oosterdokskade 5, 9th floor
1011 AD Amsterdam
The Netherlands
Parking is nearly impossible in this area so we advise people to use traditional Dutch transportation, fiets, feet or tram. If you come by tram you should head for central station and then follow the signs pointing at the Stedelijk Museum. There are parking options but these tend to be expensive and impractical. However, parking is possible at het Muziekgebouw and under the new library next door.
The entrance for the Pool office is on the north side of the building, the same as you would use to enter Club 11 (not the Stedelijk Museum entrance!). We will have hostesses present to welcome you and to guide you to the right elevator.

Wild Cards & Facts.
He traced his heart on the tables of Swiss open and in this month, Chan Twan will fittingly complete his career arc at the Amsterdam tournement. The three-time world champion has been granted a wild card into A.I.P.P.T and plans to officially retire after playing his beloved game one last time. A.I.P.P.T is scheduled for June 8.
The Amsterdam ping pong society also awarded wild cards to the following players men Luc Deriere (No. 118), Olivier Patricks (No. 123), Jeremy Jackal (No. 160), Adrian Garnier(No. 184) and Juergen Heinz(No. 411).
France's Olivia Sanye, Hester Bremond, Stephy Foreign, Mathilda "Evil" Bulstronks, and Violette Huck were granted main draw women's wild cards.
Australians Robbie Goodwin and Samantha Steurling were awarded wild cards under a reciprocal agreement the Amsterdam society has with Australia to exchange wild cards at A.I.P.P.T and the Sydney Open.
Americans Mandy Jenkins and Wayne Deer earned A.I.P.P.T wild card spots by virtue of winning the USTA playoff in Kentucky.
A chronic hip injury has prompted John Richard Hamilton to pull down the curtain on a brilliant career in which he topped the world rankings for 43 weeks, claimed 20 career championships, including the 1997, 2000 and 2001 Shanghai titles as well as the 2000 Ping Pong Blades Cup Lisbon, and served as a global goodwill ambassador for the game.
The brightest moments of his career have come in the City of Light. Hamilton gained a loyal following of fans who responded to his pure passion and delight for playing Ping Pong by beating drums and chanting "JRH! JRH" — at those times Hamilton was not only playing an opponent he was connecting with the crowd. He famously etched the image of a heart in the clay after claiming his third french crown in 2001 as a sign of his heart-felt appreciation for the fan support he received at the French Open.
Hamilton, who owns a 36-7 record at the tables major, has not played Amsterdam since suffering a first-round loss to Spain's Juan Javier in 2005. The year before, Hamilton upset top-seeded Olympic "HES", 11-4, 11-9, 11-9, in the third round and went on to reach the quarterfinals where he lost to New York finest Jeff Staple , 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-2(6).

Sawyer & Hurley play mercy rule
Remember, The Swan Station was filled with many things from books to exercise equipment, that were intended to help make the occupants' lives more comfortable.
Really whatever with THE OTHERS ,the most important thing they found on the island was a ping pong table, complete with a ball and paddles.
I just loved this scene with Hurley & Sawyer. Once again Sawyer goes down.
This time Hurley uses the mercy rule.
So, you really the number 1 draftpick ??

Bounce dem balls
As an aspiring member of The Amsterdam Ping Pong Society you train hard. And give everything you physically can. Of course, you can't be at the training complex 24/7.
Sometimes you have to be home with the lady. If only to reclaim some of that lost authority. So thank god for the digital version of our beloved sport.
Remember the MSX computer system? Just get one and find a copy of Konami's Ping Pong. It's ace. And we're not only talking about the cover artwork. This way you can be a good husband and train your ping pong skills. At the same time!

Stylish smash
Ping Pong is not only about skills and technique.
It's also about intimidating your opponent with your sense of style.
Fashion designer Rogan Gregory understands this.

Ping Pong Slang
Just like every other sport or lifestyle Ping Pong has his own set of lingo. As a Ping Pong professional you have to get familiar with the language used around the table:
Blade - the main body of the table tennis racket without the rubber covering
Block - the return of an aggressive shot directly off the bounce, done simply by holding the paddle in the path of the ball
Closed - racket face downward; this will put topspin on the ball and is ideal for returning shots with backspin
Chop - an effective defensive shot with heavy backspin to prevent an attacker from hitting a kill shot
Counter - returning a shot with similar stroke and pace
Cupping - placing the ball inside the palm during the serve toss; this is illegal because a player can place spin on the ball this way
Dead ball - a shot with little or no spin, similar to a knuckleball in baseball
Drop - a table tennis shot placed shallow in the opponent's territory, usually with backspin, executed when the opponent is away from the table
Hand shake grip - a balanced grip that allows a smooth transition from backhand to forehand; this is the most popular grip in table tennis
Kill - successfully hitting a short with full force resulting in an immediate point
Let - a serve that touches the net and lands successfully in the opponent's territory; serve is repeated with no points scored.
Lob - a high defensive shot used to return a smash
Loop - an arcing or looping shot with heavy topspin; this is regarded as the most important shot in table tennis
Open - racket face upward; used to put backspin on the ball or to return shots with topspin
Pip - the raised rubber dot on a pimpled rubber paddle surface; these give control when returning shots with spin
Rally - when the ball is hit back and forth successively from serve to point scored
Rip - a looping kill shot
Rubber - the covering placed on a table tennis blade to make a complete paddle; rubber surfaces vary from pimpled to inverted (flat) to determine ball control and spin
Skunk - shutting out the opponent; some basement rules result in a skunk victory when a player goes up 11-0 in a 21 point game
Smash - another name for a kill shot
Throw angle - the elasticity and grip of the rubber surface of the a ping pong paddle
Volley - a ball hit before it bounces on your side of the table; results in the loss of the point
